Things to do in Diriyah

Diriyah is not a Riyadh neighbourhood. It is a separate town on the Wadi Hanifa, northwest of the capital, and the birthplace of the first Saudi state in the 18th century. Most visitors base themselves in Olaya, Al Malqa or KAFD and drive out for a half-day or an evening, generally 20-30 minutes each way outside peak traffic.

The main draw is At-Turaif, the mud-brick citadel of the Al Saud family, UNESCO-listed since 2010, standing across the wadi from Al Bujairi Terrace, a restaurant and cafe strip rather than a heritage site itself.

Treat Diriyah as its own outing: it does not overlap with the desert excursions to Edge of the World, the Red Sand Dunes, or Shaqra and Ushaiger, which sit on different routes and different pages.
